โœฆ Synopsis

Cathodic oxygen reduction on some manganese oxides in alkaline solution was examined by using a rotating ring-disk electrode (rrde) and a Teflon-bonded electrode technique . The activity of y-MnO, for cathodic oxygen reduction was larger than that of y-MnOOH at the potential below -200 mV vs Hg/HgO (rrde4 The electrochemical activity of carbon-supported y-MnOOH Teflon-bonded electrode, on the contrary, was extremely high compared with that of y-Mn0 3 . It was found that the y-MnOOH in the Teflon-bonded electrode was thermally decomposed mainly to Mn 3 04 and Mn 6 Os in the course of the electrode preparation. These facts suggest that one of the causes of the high activity of the Teflon-bonded electrode containing y-MnOOH is manganese oxides with distortion which have been produced in the electrode by the thermal decomposition of y-MnOOH .

The objectives of the present study were to find substitutes for platinum as electrocatalysts for alkaline fuel cells. For this purpose, electrode kinetic studies were carried out for the hydrogen oxidation reaction on the metals Pt and Ni and on the alloys Pt-Ni, Pt-Ti and Ni-Ti and for the oxygen

The design of a DCEFC with an exchangeable generator electrode made of a thin film of a pure oxide deposited on a conductive substrate is described. The cell was tested with Pt, and applied to the investigation of the oxygen reduction reaction (err) on film or pure copper manganite cu 1 +.Mn,\_,O, (
