The formation of metallic lead phase normally observed in lead oxide-promoted Li/MgO catalysts during the oxidative methylation of toluene with methane was overcome by the substitution of lead oxide precursom, such as Pb(NOa)2 with Pb.~(PO4)~ in the catalyst preparation step.
