The oxidative decarboxylation of a-amino acids using the system (diacetoxyiodo)benzene or iodosylbenzene and iodine proceeded smoothly at room temperature. The intermediacy of an Naeylirainium cation has been demonstrated through intennolecular and intramolecular trapping with nueleophiles.
