✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Ascorbic acid (1a), the 6‐benzoate and 6‐palmitate ester (1b, c) were oxidized by iodine both in D~2~O and in [D~6~]DMSO solution. The reactions were followed by ^13^C‐NMR spectroscopy. It was shown for the 6‐esters 1b, c, that, with the exclusion of water, monomeric dehydroascorbic acid esters 6b, c could be detected.
