โœฆ Synopsis


The oxidation at low pressures and temperatures of evaporated magnesium films was studied by the Wagener flow method. In the initial period of the oxidation the sticking probability usually increased with the uptake of oxygen, suggesting a nucleation effect. In the second period of the oxidation the stioking probability fell rapidly; an average total oxide thiekness of 37 8, was reached. A remarkable independence of the sticking probability to temperature and pressure changes was observed in this second period. The oxidized magnesium surfaces were studied by electron diffraction and electron microscopy.

In der Anfangsperiode der Oxydstion wuchs die Haftwahrscheinlichkeit in der Regel mit der Menge des sufgenommenen Sauerstoffs. In der zweiten Periode fiel die Haftwahrscheinlichkeit schnell; im Mittel wurde eine Gesamtdicke des Oxydfilms van 27 A erreicht. Die Haftwahrscheinlichkeit war in dieser zweiten P&ode von Temperatur-und Drucklinderungen bemerkenswert unabhangig.
