Catalytic hydrogenolysis of organic halides using heterogeneous catalysts is a well known process. Homogeneous catalysts for this process are less common but examples involving both molecular hydrogen' and hydrogen transfer from organic compounds 3 are known.

New flavins with metal affinity, (1) and ( 2) were applied to photo-oxidation of alcohols and mandelate. (1) rapidly photooxidized alcohols in the presente of Mg(I1) and Zn(I1): the rate augmentation corresponds to 16-18 fold. (2) could photo-oxidize PhCH(OH)COO-K+ but only slightly PhCH(OH)COO\_NM
