✦ Synopsis

Bis-chloroniethyl-alkyl-and -aryl-phosphine oxides, (CICH,),P(O)R, which arc obtained by reaction of (ClCH,),P(O)Cl with GRIGNARD reagents, undergo a MICHAELIS-ARBUSOV reaction when hcatcd for several hours with trivalcnt phosphorus esters (phosphites, phosphonites, or phosphinites) a t 170-180" C. The reaction affords bis-(dialkyloxyphosphonyl-methyl)-, bis-(alkyloxyphosphinyl-methyl)., and bis-(oxophosphoranyl-methyl)-, -alkyl-or -aryl-phosphinc oxides, R(O)P[CH,P(O)R'R"], R
