✦ Synopsis

Index, however, suffers by comparison. There is very little crossindexing and many important entries are indexed only under category headings. For example, tetracyanoethylene, one of the strongest and most widely studied ,r-acid type complexing agents, is indexed only under the "A's" (viz., "Acceptor Types") where one finds more than 24 separate page citations for it. Similarly, compounds like benzophenanthrenc and benzanthracene are discussed in the text but are not even allotted an entry in the Index: one must refer to one or all of the 59 page citations under "Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Derivatives" which is a subdivision of the entry "Donor Types." Either a more complete Subject Index or a separate Compound Index would considerably enhance the utility of this book which otherwise is an excellent contribution to the field of molecular complexes.
