Substituted phenols are of great environmental concern particularly as water pollutants'. Eleven phenols, listed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.E.P.A.) as priority pollutants 2, have been subjected to many previous investigations3-lo. One of the more widely used techniques
