โœฆ Synopsis


The dynamics of the exit variable of a class of plug flow heat exchanger or chemical reactors with flow rate as the control variable is shown to be represented by ordinary differential equations with functional delay. That is, the delay in the control variable is a function of the exit variable. Necessary conditions for the optimization of such systems are derived by variational technique. Computational results are given for the optimal control of a flow-forced chemical reactor.
