Abstract
We consider a twoβdimensional parabolic system with general competitive interactions as a twoβplayer game with conflicting objectives and with controls on the inhomogencous (source) terms. We show the existence of an optimal solution of the game as the saddle point of a suitable objective functional.

A linear regulator problem for mechanical vibrating systems is studied in the secondorder formulation. We exploit the second-order form of the di!erential equations involved, and solve the problem without the traditional use of a Riccati equation. In its natural representation, the optimal control p
