Abstract

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of Dy^3+^‐doped La~3~Ga~5~SiO~14~ (LGS) crystals were measured and analyzed according to the Judd–Ofelt theory. When applied, the following spectral parameters have been obtained: phenomenological intensity parameters Ξ©~t~, Ξ©~2~ = 2.64 × 10^βˆ’20^ cm^2^, Ξ©~4~ = 1.39 × 10^βˆ’20^ cm^2^ and Ξ©~6~ = 0.63 × 10^βˆ’20^ cm^2^. These intensity parameters were used to predict radiative properties that included electronic line strengths, radiative transition probabilities A~Jβ€³,Jβ€²~, the radiative lifetime Ο„~rad~, the fluorescence branching ratios Ξ²~Jβ€³,Jβ€²~. The value of absorption section Οƒ~abs~(Ξ»), and the integrated emission cross sections Οƒ~em~(Ξ») were also calculated. The emission transition ^4^F~9/2~ → ^6^H~13/2~ provides potential applications of LGS:Dy crystal as a laser material.
