✦ Synopsis

Using Goell's point-matching method under the weak guidance condition, modal characteristic equations ha¨e been deri¨ed for two lightguides with double con¨ex lens-shaped core cross sections. In one case, both of the boundaries are taken as conducting, and in the other case, we consider only one side as conducting. In both cases, dispersion cur¨es are obtained and compared.

Using Goell's point-matching method under the weak guidance approximation, we obtain and interpret the modal dispersion cur¨es for some low-order modes sustained by an optical wa¨eguide whose guiding region has a double-con¨ex-lens-like cross section. An optical fiber with an annular cross section bounded by two nonconcentric circles is analytically studied with a ¨iew to obtaining the modal characteristics. Using the characteristic equation deri¨ed from the matching of fields at the core᎐cladding boundaries expressed in terms of bipolar coordina
