β¦ Synopsis
The absorption spectra of neodymium ion in the stoichiometric Nd 2 BaCuO 5 and Nd 2 BaZnO 5 compounds have been analyzed. The similarity of the spectra is emphasized in spite of apparent di4erences in the crystal structures and is explained by the same nearest surroundings of the Nd 3Ψ ions in both compounds. This circumstance allows us to perform the crystal 5eld calculation on 93 Stark levels coming from the two title compounds. In the 5tting procedure a set of 20 free-ion and 9 crystal 5eld phenomenological parameters is obtained with a mean deviation of 13.7 cm Ψ1 . Magnetic g-factors are computed from the derived wave functions. Exchange splittings of Nd 3Ψ levels in a magnetically ordered state of Nd 2 BaCuO 5 (T N β«Ψβ¬ 7.5 K) were measured. The experimentally obtained temperature dependence of the exchange splittings reveal quasi-one-dimensional magnetic correlations that persist up to &10 T N .

High quality Nd 3+ -doped Lu 2 SiO 5 (Nd:LSO) crystal has been grown by the Czochralski technique. The cell parameters were analyzed with X-ray diffraction (XRD). Room temperature absorption and fluorescence spectra and fluorescence lifetime of the Nd:LSO crystal were measured and analyzed. The Judd
In this paper, the absorption and emission spectra of Nd:Y2.5Gd0.5Al5O12 (Nd:YGAG) crystal at room temperature have been studied. With a laser diode (LD) as the pumping source, the maximum 1.66 W continuous-wave (CW) laser output power has been obtained, with the optical-to-optical efficiency of 46.
