✦ Synopsis

The electronic structure and optical absorption spectra of coupled quantum wires InAs x P 1Àx aInP are studied within the framework of the effective-mass envelope-function theory. The valence subband dispersion, the energy levels at the G-point, the squared optical transition matrix elements, and the absorption spectra near the band edge are calculated. The coupling effects among heavy hole, light hole, and spin-split-off bands are presented.
