β¦ Synopsis
Two different but complementary perturbation solutions to a two-state strong vibronic coupling model are presented. ' Here (&!?&n phys the same role as K in eq. (53) of ref. [ 11. Our calculation differs from the strong-coupling calculation in ref. [I] in two respects: (a) in the harmonic approximation our adiabatic frequencies cannot be equal unless the coupl& vanishes, and (b) in fg. 1 we vary Eo for constant A, while in ref.
[I 1 K is assumed constant so that A and EO are chosen to vrtry together. We thank Professor Fulton for helpful correspondence concerning this point.

The intIoducticjn of an average trajectory is much more powerful than can be appreciated from the derivations of the classical equations. This is discussed and exemplified by systems for which the general conditions derived will not be necessary conditions of applicability.
A method for solving coupled eigenvalue differential equations is given and its relation to an existing technique is shown. Use of the Gram-Schmidt process to overcome the severe instabilities arising in molecular problems is described in detail.
We study the unique bound state which (-d2/dx2) + hV and -A + XV (in two dimensions) have when A is small and V is suitable. Our main results give necessary and sufficient conditions for there to be a bound state when h is small and we prove analyticity (resp. nonanalyticity) of the energy eigenvalu
