โฆ Synopsis
The Stokes resistance for two spheres in contact in a linear shear field is determined exactly, and using the results, the elements of the grand resistance matrix and the shear resistance matrix for a rigid dumb-bell are calculated. The simplicity of the matrix representation of the Stokes resistance is illustrated in deriving the translational and angular velocities for a neutrally buoyant dumb-bell moving in a linearly sheared fluid.
