The accuracy of a formula for calculating velocity gradient at the wag for power-law fluids is investigated by obtaining the exact numerical solution of the boundary-layer equations for Howarth's flow. In general, the formula is found to be quite accurate for the pseudo-plastic cases, n < 1.
