✦ Synopsis

The paper indicates a necessity of considering the thermodynamic thickness -that is, the parameter which can be included in the rigorous construction of thermodynamics of a multiphase system having "non-Gibbsian" thin interlayers between phases. A method is presented, allowing the thermodynamic thickness to be exactly determined on the basis of the experimental measurement of the values (forces) of an unambiguous thermodynamic significance. The problem has been solved for the cases of a foam-emulsion film, a film wetting the solid substrate, and a film separating two plates.
