✦ Synopsis
In a series of mixtures of cholesteryl oleylcarbonate and cholcster~l chloride the temperature dependence of the molnr volume V hss been determined by dilatometiic measurcmcnts near the cholestcric to smcctic-A phase transition. It could be shown from rhr Y(7) curves rhar rhc phase lransition changes from first fo second order at o definite mole rraction G 0.63 cholestcryl oleylcarbonate. This behaviour can be understood in terms of the theories of hlchlillan and Kobwashi.
