It is shown that changing the composition of a sample of NiO from that in equilibrium with air at I2WC to that in equilibrium with oxygen saturated Ni at 800-9OO'C will e the surface to a much l&r gnin size. Annealing back at 1200Β°C in air will again rcuystallizc the surface layer. This type of diff
