## Abstract Observations of the fluctuations, minute by minute, of wind components and temperature in a radiosonde and radar‐wind ascent up to 30 km were analysed. After allowing for the effects of random errors a standard deviation of about 4 kt for the eddy velocity, with a mean wind of about 25
