Abstract

Observations of the fluctuations, minute by minute, of wind components and temperature in a radiosonde and radar‐wind ascent up to 30 km were analysed. After allowing for the effects of random errors a standard deviation of about 4 kt for the eddy velocity, with a mean wind of about 25 kt, was obtained. The standard deviation of the temperature fluctuations was 0.85.F in the troposphere but decreased to about one‐third of this in the upper stratosphere.
