## Abstract A component of the egg string jelly of __Loligo pealei__ inhibits ciliary activity in ciliated cells, thereby immobilizing a variety of swimming ciliated organisms. This report establishes the nidamental gland as a source of both the egg jelly sheath and the ciliary immobilizing factor.
