β¦ Synopsis
Both the N-N stretching vibration and its combination with the Fermi doublet {ul,2u2) of carbon dioxide arc infrved active for a nitrogen crystal containing traces of carbon dioxide. The intensities of these normally forbidden bands can be accountpd for semiquantitatively by a simple electrostatic model.

The bendiq mode infrared spectrum of clusters of carbon dioxide formed in a diffusive trapping cell is reported. It is shown that, although the spectrum differs markedly from that reported for crystalline films of carbon dioxide, these differences may be attributed to effects generated by the size o
The Raman spectrum of NO2 excited at 355 nm is found to be dominated by bands containing up to six quanta of the bending vibration and four quanta of the symmetric stretch, with an almost complete absence of bands containing asymmet, ric stretch quanta. These results are interpreted within a timedep
