✦ Synopsis


The equations governing spherically symmetric phase growth in an infinite medium are first formulated for the general case and are then simplified to describe growth controlled by the transport of heat and matter. All assumptions and restrictions are recounted. Exact solutions of the equations are obtained for conditions typical of bubble growth in the nucleate boiling of (a) pure materials and (b) binary mixtures. The effect of radial convection resulting from unequal phase densities is established and the regions of applicability of previously reported approximate solutions are determined.

R6sum~-Les 6quations r6gissant le grossissement de phase, sph6riquement sym&rique, dans un milieu infini, sont d'abord 6tablies pour le cas g6n6ral et simplifi6es pour d6crire le grossissement r6gt~ par le transport thermique et le transport de mati&e. I1 est tenu compte de toutes les hypoth6ses et limitations. Des solutions exactes des 6quations sont obtenues pour des conditions typiques de grossissement de bulles, dans l'6bullition sous forme de bulles:

(a) de substances pures (b) de m61anges binaires. L'influence de la convection radiale r6sultant de densit6s in6gales est 6tablie, et les r6gions d'application des solutions approch6es not6es pr6c6demment sont d6termin6es.

Zusammenfassung--Die Gleichungen fiir das kugelsymmetrische Phasenwachstum in einem ausgedehnten Medium werden zun/ichst allgemein formuliert und dann fiir jenen Fall vereinfacht, bei dem das Wachstum durch den Transport von W/irme und Stoff bestimmt ist. Alle Annahmen und Einschriinkungen werden aufgeziihlt. Exakte L6sungen der Gleichungen werden erhalten f'tir Bedingungen, wie fiir das Blasenwachstum bei Blasenverdampfung in (a) reinen Stoffen und (b) Zweistoffgemischen typisch sind. Die Einfliisse radialer Konvektion, hervorgerufen durch ungleiche Phasendichten, werden behandelt und die Bereiche bestimmt, in denen die oben erw/ihnten N/iherungsl/bsungen anwendbar sind.
