β¦ Synopsis
The noise in photographic measurements of solar velocities and magnetic fields is assumed to be essentially determined by the granularity of the film, its gamma, the scanning spot size and the parameters of the specific spectral line. A formula is derived which serves for a quantitative estimate of the rms velocity and magnetic field noise when evaluating spectrograms and spectroheliograms.
Four typical examples are treated and show that the estimate is correct within 200o / . * Mitteilungen aus dem Fraunhofer Institut Nr. 118.

A statistical mechanics of the velocity and magnetic fields is formulated for an active region plasma. The plasma subjected to the conservation laws emerges in a most probable state which is described by an equilibrium distribution function containing a lagrange multiplier for every invariant of the
Spectroheliograms with high spatial resolution are presented to illustrate the decomposition of the solar velocity field into its oscillatory and slowly-varying components. An analysis of data obtained in the lines FeI 2 5434 and Fen 2 4924 yield essentially the same principal results: (1) Spectroh
