β¦ Synopsis
Based on data recently published for Ag. Cu and Cs atoms, it is shown that Rydberg transitions exist also for atoms isolated in raresas matrices_ The reported transitions are discussed within the Wannier model rather than in the commonly applied Frenkel model, leading to a consistent description of the observations. Some arguments are given \vhy Rydberg transitions were not observed till now for the resonance series of group IA and IB atoms.
' The rare-gas dais used for all fits were taken from table III ofref.
