Real Time Computer Algorithm for Monitoring the ECG Waveform *
.4 totally computerized method of analyzing the ECG waveform is described. On-line monitoring is done on a real time basis which is a unique aspect of this method. On-line capability is crucial where continuous monitoring is imperative, i.e., in a Coronary Care Unit. This method of analysis requires finding reference points on the QRS. The parameters being measured hy the computer for each cycle are the duration of the cycle, and four specific parameters for every wave within the cycle. In a typical PQRST cycle, 71 parameters are measured. This method represents a significant beginning toward a reliable continuous real time monitor for detection of intra and inter cycle variations from a xtable rhythm for the purpose of arrhythmia detection.
