✦ Synopsis
We report on our initial investigations utilizing unmodified atmospheric pressure ionization interfaces for real-time monitoring of liquid phase reactions. As a model reaction we have investigated the photolysis of a substituted triphenylethylene molecule (SB 223030)in methanol monitored with both nebulized assisted electrospray and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization in positive ion mode. The approach allows the monitoring of the parent species and five relevant reaction products simultaneously. The quality of the kinetic data is illustrated by modeling the reaction system using pseudo-first order approximations. In this particular study the signal available from extracted ion data of the relevant [MH] ions is directly used in the model without adjustment, thus demonstrating the potential utility of such MS interfaces for in situ probing. Future applications are discussed.
