## Abstract A method for concentrating dilute samples prior to separation by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) is described. The principles of isotachophoresis are used to achieve higher local concentrations of the sample solution within a preconcentration capillary that is attached directly to

โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
A simple isotachophoretic (ITP) preconcentration column for subsequent online capillary zone electrophoresis is described, and its use for enhancing detectability in capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) is evaluated. Sample preconcentration using ITP is shown to enhance detectability in CZE by several orders of magnitude. Experimental verification of the detectability gain is demonstrated for cationic and anionic separations; an increase in detectability of more than 200โfold was achieved. The practical applicability of this method is demonstrated using a direct analysis of thiamine in human blood.
