β¦ Synopsis
It has becn pointed out that the attachment reaction (\mathrm{e}+\mathrm{HBO}{2} \rightarrow \mathrm{BO}{2}^{-}+\mathrm{H}) is close to or at equilibrium throughout large regions of the high temperature test flames in which its rate coefficient was determined. This is indeed the case but only in the later stages of the flames; the rate constant is derived from species concentration measurements in the early parts of the fiames prior to the attainment of equilibrium.
