โฆ Synopsis
Operation of the disc fermenter involves growth of a microbial film on a solid support surface.
Substrates which diffuse through the film for consumption, may become limiting. A criterion for the prediction of diffusional effects is applied to recent data, and indicates the presence of severe intra-film gradients.
