CURRENT TOPICS. quantity of sulphuric acid is now made by the copper smelters, and in one case at any rate, the acid output in more profitable than the metal produced. The demand for sulphuric acid exceeds the supply from sulphurous ores and pyrites. In 19o 9 about 250,000 tons of pyrites were mined and nearly three times as much imported. There are large deposits of pyrites in New York, Virginia and California. The great sulphur deposits in Louisiana now yield immense quantities of commercially pure sulphur.
