The electron impact (El) mass spectra of alkyltriphenylphosphonium and alkyltriphenylarsonium salts were compared with fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass spectra in a 3-nitrobenzyl alcohol matrix. It is clearly demonstrated that FAB is an effective ionization method compared with El for analysis of th

Abstract
Positiveβion fast atom bombardment (FAB) and B/E linked scan FAB mass spectra of seven carotenoids are reported. In all cases the M ^+Β·^ ions are observed, and the [M + H]^+^ ions are absent in the hydrocarbons and weak in the oxygenated compounds. The usefulness of B/E linked scan FAB mass spectra to distinguish isomers and to attribute the loss of toluene from the M ^+Β·^ to an ionic fragmentation and not to a thermal process is discussed.

Negative-ion fast atom bombardment mass spectra of hypervalent germanates, silicates and titanate with the use of two matrices, glycerol and m-nitrobenzyl alcohol, were studied. In the case of germanates a complete reaction of the studied anion with glycerol is observed, so it is impossible to use s
The positiveion fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass spectra of eserine and some carbamate analogues were recorded and showed a partially different fragmentation process, with respect to that of the corresponding chemical ionization (CI) fragmentation. This unexpected behaviour could be explained by tak
The interaction of the s electron system of furyl and thienyl substituents with the silicon (or germanium) atom is less significant in fragmentation under fast atom bombardment than under electron impact. Under fast atom bombardment the primary fragmentation of the title compounds is determined by s
