โœฆ Synopsis

The contradictory reports about possible superconducting transition in ZrB 2 make it more interesting to study this system in all possible directions. The calculated elastic behaviour of the diboride of Zr is compared with the experimental values of ZrB 2 and a similar type of material TiB 2 . The analysis of calculated density of states and band structure do not indicate superconductivity in the compound.

Single-phase, simple BCC structure, solid solution U-Zr alloys were obtained by a rapid-quench-from-melt technique. Compositions range from 25 to 80 atomic percent Zr. Lattice parameters, atomic volumes and superconducting transition temperatures (between 0.6 K and 1.3 K) are reported. The interatom
