β¦ Synopsis
The incorporation of digitonin 0.2% w/v in cacodylate buffered glu- taraldehyde reduces the amount of cholesterol extracted in the dehydrating (lipid extracting) solutions. The fixative enhances membrane structure and results in the preservation of a double minor period in peripheral myelin. The periodicity obtained is in agreement with those derived from x-ray diffraction studies.
