An Y-Ba-Cu-O compound containing a small quantity of added fluorine was developed which exhibited magnetization curves at 77 K very similar to those of practical superconductors used at 4.2 K such as Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn. When formed in bulk, the compound is made up of grains which are closely connected
