✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The rearrangement of the 2‐methyl‐2‐phenylpropyl (or neophyl) radical 1 to the 1‐methyl‐1‐benzylethyl radical 2 is observed by ESR. spectroscopy during photolysis of di‐t‐butylperoxide in t‐butylbenzene at 270–360 K. The energy of activation of the rearrangement is determined to be (43 ± 9) kJ mol^−1^.

The radical polymerization of dialkyl fumarates (DRF) bearing various ester alkyl groups was kinetically studied. The propagation and termination rate constants were determined using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. The introduction of the bulky ester alkyl groups such as a tert-butyl gro
