✦ Synopsis

The onset of anomalous dissipation in a microwave field was observed in thick films of electrophoretically deposited YBCO. The mechanism was studied by measuring the temperature dependence of the quality factor and the resonant frequency in several resonant modes of a fully coated cylindrical sever cavity. An unexpected increase of the surface resistance was found just below To. This phenomenon can be partially understood taking into account the strong substrate effect due to the large field penetration in the superconducting film. Futhermore, a strong RF field dependence of the surface resistance for T< 50 K was observed. Our result shows that the microwave properties of the film are determined by film inhomogeneities and grain coupling rather than by intrinsic grain properties.
