Evidence is presented that the second excited state of pleradene (I) is of docblj-excited nature. Such states are of interest in discussions of excited state and ground state reactivities and for further development of calculational methods. \* Parametrization as in ref. [6].

The electronic spectra of bipy-and bipyz-anions (bipy = 2, P'-bipyridine) have been measured between 5000 and 50 000 cnl-1. The observed bands which have intensities betweenf = 6.30 x lo-2 and f = 0.52 are assised on the basis of HMO and Parker-Parr calculations. It is well known that 2,2'-bypiridi
## Abstract Raman scattering is used to investigate the electronic excitedβstates of alexandrite at low temperature (13 K). The Raman spectra of Cr^3+^ ions in two nonβequivalent types of crystal field sites, one having mirror symmetry __C__~s~ the other having inversion symmetry __C__~1~, are repo
