โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

A new NMR parameter is suggested as a sensitive tool for monitoring thermal coagulation of liver tissue. That parameter is the proton magnetization exchange time (ฯ„~MEX~) between water and the proteins. ฯ„~MEX~ was very sensitive to coagulation and insensitive to temperature, therefore representing only damage to the tissue, independent of effects caused by temperature fluctuations. The measurement of ฯ„~MEX~ by two different methods revealed the existence of two or more groups of proteins, characterized by their different transverse relaxation time, and ฯ„~MEX~. ## Abstract Fatty liver is thought to have a shorter T1 relaxation time than normal liver tissue, due to the accumulation of triglyceride. Previously, the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging appearance of frozen tissues created during cryosurgery has been described as a signal void. In this work, very short echo times (1.2 msec) allowed MR signals from frozen tissues to be measured at temperatures down to ุŠ35ยฐC. Ex vivo bovine liver, muscl

NMR is now frequently the technique of choice for the determination of chemical structure in solution. Its uses also span structure in solids and mobility at the molecular level in all phases. The research literature on the subject is vast and ever-increasing. Unfortunately, many articles do not con
