This discussion examines Robert Nozick's claim in Anarchy, State, and Utopia (New York 1974) that his entitlement theory of justice avoids the paradox of collective choice shown by A. K. Sen in Collective Choice and Social Welfare (San 'pattern' to include the overall designs put forth by combinations of end-state principles.'4 From a discussion of 'patterned' principles of distributive justice, Nozick concludes Theory and Decision 8 (1977) 387-393.
