✦ Synopsis
Abstract
We used a novel approach to prepare poly(propylene)–clay nanocomposite starting from pristine montmorillonite and reactive compatibilizer hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide. The nanocomposite structure was revealed by X‐ray diffraction and high‐resolution electronic microscopy. The thermal properties of the nanocomposite were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. An increase of thermal stability was observed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 89: 2586–2588, 2003

Two‐layered lamella model for polymer layered silicates nanocomposite material processed by solution casting. The model describes the decrease in liquid permeability due to the presence of layered silicates, where each lamella has two layers: one of polymer and the second one containing polymer plus
The relationship between nanostructure and properties in polysiloxane layered silicate nanocomposites is presented. Solvent uptake (swelling) in dispersed nanocomposites was dramatically decreased as compared to conventional composites, though intercalated nanocomposites and immiscible hybrids exhib
