Abstract
A novel tri‐band electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) fed coplanar slot antenna is proposed and adopted for this investigation. With the integration of the EBG as an impedance matching element, a wider impedance bandwidth response is obtained for all the bands. Analytical expression for designing the coplanar EBG unit cells are derived for the first time. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
