โœฆ Synopsis


A single beam Z-Scan technique is used to characterize
the nonlinear optical properties of Cr^3+^-doped
lanthanum-magnesium hexa-aluminate LaMgAl~11~O~19~ with c.w.
laser radiation at 514.5 nm. The real part n'
~2~ = 2.6 ร—
10^-8^ cm^2^/W and the imaginary part n''
~2~ = - 1.1 ร—
10^-9^ cm^2^/W of the laser induced complex refractive index
are measured. The excited state absorption cross-section is
deduced and found to be 3ร—10^-20^ cm^2^ at the same
wavelength.
