It is demonstrated that general nonlinear dynamical systems covering all cases arising in practice can be reduced to rate equations of chemical kinetics.

He has served as an invited Editor for two French journals of Control and Signal Processing, to prepare special issues in the area of "Modeling and identification in signal processing". He has also published a book in this area (Modeling and Identification in Signal Processing, Masson, Paris 1988) and has authored or co-authored more than 60 papers. Prof. Najim is a member of the IFAC Technical Board and has organized several IFAC symposia. He is a member of the board of GRECO, the French CNRS research program on signal processing and image. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
