β¦ Synopsis
The paper deals with the problem of absorbing the harmonic response at a prescribed location in an axially vibrating rod. An explicit formula for the feedback control gain is given. A necessary and sufficient condition for allowing the control to be carried out by a passive element is determined, and the stability of the system is analysed. Examples demonstrating the various results are presented.
