## Abstract A new method for the preparation of coumestan derivatives was described involving an intramolecular palladium‐catalyzed ring closure reaction of coumarins obtained from condensation of substituted __o__‐hydroxyphenylacetic add and __o__‐hydroxybenzaldehyde.
