Abstract
Chemical investigation of an extract of the marine sponge Phyllospongia papyracea, collected from the South China Sea, led to the isolation and identification of three new scalaraneโtype sesterterpenoids, compounds 1โ3. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including 1Dโ and 2DโNMR as well as highโresolution ESIโMS experiments. (12__ฮฑ__,16__ฮฒ__)โ12โAcetoxyโ16โhydroxyโ20,24โdimethylโ25โnorscalarโ17โenโ24โone (1) was cytotoxic against the leukemia P388 cancer cell line, with an IC~50~ value of 5โ ฮผg/ml.
